Shrewsbury’s national award-winning indoor market is an eclectic shopping attraction and foodie magnet that is often compared to some of the ‘coolest’ markets in London.
Cosmopolitan cafes, artisan producers, quality gift boutiques, vintage specialists, artists and craftspeople all thrive alongside family butchers and traditional fresh fruit and veg sellers – some of whom have been trading for up to 100 years.
Find the Market Hall beneath the town’s iconic clock tower, between Shoplatch and Claremont Street, in Shrewsbury town centre.
Diners can enjoy a creative international menu - Beijing pork dumplings at a Chinese teahouse, Spanish tapas, sizzling Thai street food and even champagne and oysters at the continental-style Saint Pierre Seafood Bar.
The chilled-out and quirky Birds’s Nest Café is popular for artisan coffee, cake and healthy ‘street’-style lunches, all served beneath a ‘nesty’ canopy of woven willow branches and fairy lights. And The Market Buffet café has been rustling up legendary homemade cakes, puddings, pies and breakfasts for nearly 50 years.
Specialist food retailers include wholefood, organic and gluten-free and a delicatessen stuffed full of artisan cheeses, cooked meats and homecured bacon.
Head to national award-winning artisan chocolatier Toot Sweets Confectionary Emporium for an indulgence of handmade single-origin chocolates.
A retro and vintage trail embraces clothing, collectables, music memorabilia, books, china, shabby chic furniture and even early generation video games and consoles. And White Rabbit Records is a mecca for vinyl records.
The market is also home to a community of talented artists and skilled craftspeople. A resident art gallery showcases the work of various contemporary artists with monthly exhibitions.
Various gift boutiques sell stationery, art prints and home accessories. From Me To You XX stocks quality wooden and traditional handmade toys.
Visitors can get a quick make-over at a traditional barber shop or walk-in nail bar and even buy or hire a bicycle to enjoy the sights of Shrewsbury. Urban Bikes also stocks bike tour and cycle route maps.
Opening Hours: Tues, Weds, Fri, Sat 8am – 4pm with a small selection of cafes and stalls open Thurs 8am – 2pm.
