The bar area has recently undergone extensive refurbishment and now offers a great selection of well-kept real ales, ciders and lagers, as well as a lunchtime range of freshly prepared rolls, sandwiches and award winning pies from local suppliers.

With both quality and excellence being the watchwords, they have created five tastefully appointed en suite bedrooms to provide guests with a perfect base from which to explore the attractions of both the town and the surrounding areas. In addition to the facilities one would expect, such as free WiFi, The Friars also welcomes dog owners who wish to bring their pets with them.

The redevelopment of the bar has created the perfect venue for socialising and has quickly gained a reputation for its range of drinks; the stars of the show undoubtedly being the 24 brands of gin on offer. The Friars also specialises in wines, not least the sparkling variety, with specially designed champagne tables that add to the sense of occasion. With local ales on tap and a range of speciality teas and coffees, The Friars certainly has something to quench everyone’s thirst.

The theme of quality also extends to the kitchen where chef Dave Sharples has created breakfast, lunch and dinner menus that feature homemade dishes using local produce. Whether it be a Full English or Eggs Benedict for breakfast, Gin & Tonic battered cod parcels with hand cut chips or a mixed platter of cheeses and charcuterie for lunch, or pan fried duck breast with plum sauce for dinner, you will be impressed.

With occasional live entertainment, either in the in the bar or in the furnished courtyard, The Friars is the perfect place to stay, meet friends, eat, drink and relax.
