9th May 2012

Healthy eating on the menu for children CHILDREN were given expert tuition to create healthy dishes from the executive chef of a four star luxury hotel. Key stage 1 pupils from Tilstock Primary School visited Hill Valley Spa, Hotel and Golf in Whitchurch for a morning to learn all about being healthy.

Executive chef Paul May demonstrated how to create two different salads using ingredients including oranges, carrots, sultanas, celery and apples.

The youngsters then made their own salads before sampling their handiwork.

“The children have been learning all about food and farming, so this experience fitted in brilliantly with that,” said teacher Jodie Glover.

”It was great to see them trying all the food and they really enjoyed making their own salads.”

Terence Southward, General Manager of Hill Valley Spa, Hotel and Golf, said: “It is so important to educate children about a healthy lifestyle and nutrition and it was great to see the children having fun with Paul while learning a lot from the experience.

“The dishes they created looked brilliant and from the smiles on their faces they tasted great too.”

The children also listened to a talk from James Morgan, a fitness instructor at the hotel, on the importance of a good diet and exercise to stay healthy.
