Tanners announces new shop opening on Wyle Cop Tanners is delighted to announce the opening of their new shop with frontage on Wyle Cop in Shrewsbury.

Linked to the rest of the historic Tanners building through the rear courtyard it is likely that this was once part of their larger premises which date back to 1842 as a Wine Merchant. At some stage the premises also housed a bakery, and an old cooking range from those days has been preserved.

‘A Taste of Tanners’ is exactly that – a distillation of the best of the larger Cellars Shop but with the convenience of being on Wyle Cop and more accessible to passers-by.

Committed to show-casing a selection of high-quality wines stocked in the Cellars Shop, the new Wyle Cop store will also feature an array of luxury gift items associated with wine.

In addition, customers will have the chance to ‘try before they buy’ with a brand new wine dispensing system, Wine Emotion which allows the purchase of a single glass of wine. This machine is the first of its kind in Shropshire.

Chairman James Tanner, who has been responsible for the sympathetic refurbishment of the old premises, commented:

“It is tremendous after 172 years, to have our first shop frontage directly onto Wyle Cop. Along with the courtyard it makes Tanners probably the most exciting venue for wine events outside of London”.
