Strap on your lederhosen ready for Oktoberfest!
16 Aug 2022

The popularity for the world’s biggest beer festival has swept across the UK, saving you a flight to Munich.

Shropshire Oktoberfest is different to many other UK offerings - there isn’t just one bar, some trestle tables, and warm mainstream lager on offer. The team at Shropshire Festivals have created a sell out festival that fills Shrewsbury’s local park with huge beer tents, brimming with independent brewers, distillers, and local drinks producers, serving up the best locally made real ale, lager, cider, perry, wine, gin, rum, fizz, and cocktails, along with some German beers.

The drinks are mopped up with delicious street food, such as sustainably sourced dishes from Wild Street Kitchen or halloumi fries from Halloumination.

Fibre Heroes are sponsoring the reusable beer cups and the live music stage. On both days the line-up features lederhosen wearing, Oktoberfest favourite - Vorsprung Durch Oompah, and 17-piece shanty music power show – Old Time Sailors.

Friday’s acts also include The Follicles, The Vertigo Band and Lost The Plot. The Saturday music line-up will deliver sets from Microbaby, Groove Dynamite, Something 4 The Weekend, Dirty Rockin Scoundrels, Five O'clock Hero, and Ego Friendly. The stage will be hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Paul Shuttleworth.

On Saturday there will be barrels of laughs to go with the beers in the Comedy Club. So far, confirmed comedians include Britain’s Got Talent finalist - Micky P Kerr, English Comedian of the Year 2016 - Josh Pugh, master of mixing punchlines with unpredictable audience interaction - Liam Pickford, the highly regarded international act - Gordon Southern, and the compere for the night will be North Devon stand up - Luke Honnoraty - with his stories on life and embarrassing moments.

With a silent disco tent and carpool karaoke tipi – there’s plenty to explore in between trips to the beer tent, which has over a hundred different real ales to choose from – with not a single mainstream beer brand on offer (in support of independent breweries).

The Hopportunity Bar from the local CAMRA group (Campaign for Real Ale) offers up top picks and unusual choices, and they will crown the festival’s best beer ‘Shropshire’s Choice.’

The festival takes place on 30th September and 1st October in Shrewsbury's Quarry Park.
